A clinical review into the first two weeks of the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital has raised serious questions about the processes leading up to the opening.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said the report was further evidence that the commissioning process was flawed.

Mr Dick praised the efforts of staff, management and families who ensured patient safety was not compromised during the commissioning and opening of the hospital.

“I have absolute respect for all of the hospital staff and the families who worked together to ensure young Queenslanders were getting the best possible care,” Mr Dick said.

Mr Dick said he was confident that hospital was now operating safely but lessons could be learned.

“Early last week I visited the hospital to meet with staff to see for myself the outstanding work that they do,” Mr Dick said.

“I am considering what further action should be taken to support everyone at this hospital.”

The Government will be responsible for commissioning another hospital on the Sunshine Coast during this term of parliament.

“It’s now important that we listen to hospital staff and families about what has happened and learn how we can do better which is something Lawrence Springborg refused to do,” Mr Dick said.
