Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Cameron Dick

Health Minister Cameron Dick today kicked off a three-year funding partnership to support Indigenous Queenslanders to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Queensland Labor delivered $300,000 per year to support the Deadly Choices Brisbane Broncos Partnership between the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health and the Brisbane Broncos.

“For the first time the Deadly Choices Brisbane Broncos Partnership will be expanded to Cape York, Mt Isa, Central Qld, Wide Bay, Mackay and Far South West.  This is great news for regional Queensland.

“The Deadly Choices partnership closes the gap by helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make good health choices,” Mr Dick said.

“It’s been very successful, with greater awareness of health issues translating into a significant increase in the number of Indigenous Queenslanders accessing community controlled health services.

“This partnership shows that there is much more to health than just hospitals. The program reduces preventable chronic diseases which are responsible for two-thirds of the Indigenous health gap.

“Indigenous leaders as well as well-known community and sporting role models including the Broncos are really driving this campaign.

“Working with the community the Queensland Government will continue to champion change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”
