Support is available to help small businesses and tourism operators recover from Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

Minister for Tourism and Small Business, Kate Jones, today visited Rockhampton and Yeppoon to meet with local businesses and tourism operators and talk about the support available for those affected by the cyclone.

“I am pleased the Federal and State Governments have jointly announced assistance will be available for small businesses under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA),” Ms Jones said.

“This assistance will help small businesses, many of which are tourism operators in this region, that have suffered significant loss of income as a result of Tropical Cyclone Marcia,” Ms Jones said.

“Concessional loans available under Category B assistance will help small businesses repairing or replacing damaged equipment and buildings as well as stock.

“The new essential working capital loans will help small businesses cover the costs of salaries and wages, paying creditors and procuring essential supplies in order to continue operations as they recover from the disaster,” Ms Jones added.

Additionally, the Government’s Business and Industry Portal has a wealth of information and resources to help Queensland small businesses and tourism operators recover and rebuild from Tropical Cyclone Marcia. Visit www.business.qld.gov.au/disaster for guides and information not only on preparing your business for a natural disaster, but also on immediate steps to take following a cyclone.
