Destination events receive $1.8 million in support

Queensland tourism regions will benefit from a $1.8 million funding boost supporting growth in destination events across the state, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones announced today.

Minister Jones unveiled the successful events as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s (TEQ) second round of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP).

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to growing our tourism industry because that means more jobs for Queenslanders,” Ms Jones said.

“Local events help drive visitation to Queensland’s tourism regions, support local economies and create more local jobs.

“Thirty-five events across 10 Queensland destinations will receive funding this round.”

Ms Jones said the QDEP supported high-value regional events which contributed to Queensland’s $23 billion tourism industry.

“In conjunction with the It’s Live! in Queensland major event calendar, these events are an important contributor to our tourism growth,” she said.

“We are committed to growing event experiences throughout Queensland that generate economic benefits, and support local jobs and businesses.”

Applications were assessed by TEQ with input from Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) on events within their region.
