Three new members have today been appointed to the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) board.

The current appointments for the GCWA expire on 30 November, which prompted a review of the membership by the Queensland Government.

Mara Bun has been appointed to the board as chairperson, and Richard Holliday and Leslie Shirreffs have been endorsed as board members.

Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Minister Mark Bailey said the new appointments would reinvigorate the board.

“I am confident the skills the new board members bring will provide new vision and effective leadership to assist the GCWA deliver on its objectives,” he said.

“Ms Bun is currently the Director of Enova Community Energy, and has extensive experience in board, advisory and non-executive positions across a range of public policy disciplines.

“Ms Shirreffs is currently the chairperson of the Wet Tropics Management Authority, and was awarded a Public Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours in 2012 for outstanding public service to environmental conservation and management in Queensland.

“Mr Holliday is currently Managing Director of RJH Consulting and has held previous positions in commercial management, communications and community relations.

“I look forward to working with them on all matters relating to the effective management of Gold Coast Waterways.”

A gazette notice detailing the appointments was published on November 27, 2015.

Three existing members were reappointed, with all appointments due to be re-evaluated before November 30, 2017. Former member Bill Turner resigned from the board on September 30.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is a member of the board by provision under the Gold Coast Waterways legislation.

Mr Bailey thanked the outgoing members of the board.

“Gary Baildon, Ray James and Bill Turner have been valued members of the board,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank them for the dedication and expertise they brought to the board, particularly in the formative early days, and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
