Treasurer, Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships
The Honourable Curtis Pitt

Treasurer and Minister for Industrial Relations Curtis Pitt joined rugby league legend Shane Webcke at a Safe Work Month breakfast in Brisbane this morning to highlight the importance of workplace safety in Queensland.

Mr Pitt said the free community event was one of many being held across the State to celebrate the smart safety solutions in Queensland workplaces that ensure workers go home to their families at the end of each working day.

“Everyone has the right to return to their loved ones after a day’s work,” Mr Pitt said.

“No one knows that better than Queensland Safety Ambassador Shane Webcke, who twenty years ago put his football career on hold when his father was killed at work.

“Safe Work Month encourages smart safety solutions in the workplace, which can protect workers while enhancing productivity.

“It’s about getting employees at all levels involved in safety - people on the shop floor talking to managers about the best ways to manage injury risks, and regularly reviewing and updating your safety systems.

“It is a great opportunity to focus on your most important reasons for work health and safety and be inspired by ideas and expertise that you can put into practice at your own workplace.”
