A tourism industry forum in Townsville this week will hear how Queensland can make the most of changing consumer travel preferences.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said more than 400 tourism industry representatives would gather at the annual DestinationQ forum from 8 – 9 October.

“This is a rare opportunity for tourism operators, government leaders and other representatives –including members of the Tourism and Commonwealth Games Cabinet Committee – to get in the one room and look to future of the industry,” Ms Jones said.

“For this flagship tourism event, we have secured some of the best presenters to address delegates including presentations from Trip Advisor, brand expert Duane Knapp and travel writer Fiona Caulfield.

“They’ll be giving their insights into travel and tourism and opportunities for growing Queensland’s tourism industry.

“We’ll be filming the sessions and making them available industry-wide after the event. There will also be masterclasses on the Great Barrier Reef, digital marketing, the growing Asia market, exceeding guest expectations and transport issues.”

Ms Jones said attendees would include Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, Treasurer Curtis Pitt and Ministers Mark Bailey, Steven Miles and Coralee O’Rourke.

“The influx of 400 delegates will also provide a significant boost for Townsville’s accommodation providers and restaurants,” she said.

“The forum is an example of the Palaszczuk Government’s partnership approach to supporting our iconic tourism sector.

“It will give industry a direct line to government and allow us to combine our efforts for maximum benefit.”
