Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Cameron Dick

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick has announced an examination of the health system’s response following the Ravenshoe explosion.

Mr Dick said that the health system had reacted extremely well to the June incident and many individuals had gone beyond the call of duty.

“This is all about setting up a formal framework so that the lessons learned from the incident are incorporated into future responses,” he said.

Mr Dick said the department will appoint an independent external reviewer to lead the examination into the largest aeromedical retrieval of burns victims in Queensland’s history.

The review will be supported jointly by Queensland Health, Queensland Ambulance Service and the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

“This is all about finding ways to better support those delivering frontline services in emergency situations,” he said.

Mr Dick said submissions from the public and interested parties would be collated.

The report is expected to be completed by the end of this year and will be made public.
