Today the Palaszczuk Government delivered on one of its significant election commitments by passing the Jobs Queensland Act 2015.

Minister for Training and Skills Yvette D’Ath said the legislation allows for the establishment of an independent statutory authority that will provide strategic industry-led advice on skills demand and long-term workforce development.

“Jobs Queensland is about making this state’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector the strongest and most productive in Australia,” Ms D’Ath said.

“The Palaszczuk Government was elected with a clear mandate to create jobs and boost training opportunities in Queensland.

“The Jobs Queensland statutory authority will reinstate the industry’s voice on skills.

“It will provide vital advice on skills needs for particular industries and regions, advice on future workforce planning and it will provide tailored, industry-led advice on the apprenticeship and traineeship system.

“Today we deliver on our election commitment to work with industry to support and encourage development and innovation.

“This is about continuing to plan for future growth and a modern Queensland economy that has a highly-skilled workforce that is tailored to meet the demands and nuances of industry.”
