Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders of all ages have the chance to gain invaluable insights and ideas at the Deadly Futures Job Placement and Community Event at Brisbane City Hall next Thursday.

Acting Premier and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Curtis Pitt said the event gives Brisbane’s Indigenous communities the chance to consider a range of career and educational opportunities in one place.

“The Deadly Futures Job Placement and Community Event is like a marketplace putting Indigenous people in direct contact with industry and information to broaden their education and employment horizons,” Mr Pitt said.

“It’s aimed at secondary high school students as well as people who are unemployed and it provides direct access to real job opportunities, tertiary education and training providers under the one roof.

“With nearly 50 exhibitors attending from government departments, training and education organisations the event showcases the enormous array of opportunities available to Indigenous people looking to further their education or gain new employment skills.

“There will also be community Elders available on the day to share stories and experiences about culture and the importance of what employment and education pathways can offer.

“Advancing the economic and social wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is a priority of the Palaszczuk Government and this event provides an opportunity to access the strong building blocks needed to create real jobs and attain employment opportunities.

“The Deadly Futures Job Placement and Community Event is a chance to see what options are available to them so they can better-plan the steps they want to take on their career path.”

This is a free event on Thursday 8 October, running from 10am to 3pm, at Brisbane City Hall, 64 Adelaide Street, Brisbane.
