The Honourable Curtis Pitt

A workshop for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprises interested in learning how to win State Government contracts will be held in Weipa on Tuesday, October 27.

Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Curtis Pitt said his department was working with the Department of State Development to help give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprises the skills to improve their success in securing government procurement opportunities.

“We are committed to increasing the representation of Indigenous-owned enterprises in government procurement activity, so I hope Weipa businesses take advantage of this upcoming workshop,” Mr Pitt said.

“Government procurement investment is worth approximately $18 billion annually and for too long, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprise has been under-represented in this investment.

“I want that to change.

“A series of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business Procurement Workshops is being delivered around Queensland to give participants invaluable knowledge on how to tender for government business, to gain insights into tender evaluation as well as information on procurement opportunities.

“This workshop is the first step for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses in Weipa to learn about government tenders and is a great opportunity to find out about other programs and services available to grow their businesses.”

The Weipa workshop will be held on Tuesday, 27 October 2015 at the Albatross Bay Resort, 10 Duyfken Crescent Weipa, from 3pm to 8pm.

Registration closes on Thursday 22 October.
