Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) research released today confirms the former LNP government failed to reduce the burden of red tape on Queensland small businesses.

Small Business Minister Kate Jones said the 2015 CCIQ Red Tape Survey Report showed that one in four businesses felt their growth was hindered by government red tape in the two years up to April 2015.

“Queensland small business should feel let down by the former government,” she said.

“The report found that over the two years to April the burden of red tape increased adversely impacting the performance of Queensland businesses.”

Ms Jones said the survey found small businesses were still concerned about duplication and lack of coordination across levels of government.

“Federal, state and local government regulations increase the cost of compliance for small business,” she said.

“This leads to duplication and frustration for Queensland businesses.”

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government would continue to work with CCIQ to ensure that new regulatory requirements do not impose unnecessary and unintended burdens on Queensland businesses.

“We are focused on identifying the issues that impose a significant regulatory burden on business, identifying reform projects and making real and meaningful change to reduce red tape,” she said.

“Small businesses are also seeing the benefit of our efforts to support jobs and boost the economy.

“For three consecutive months business confidence in Queensland has remained the highest of all mainland states according to the NAB Monthly Business Survey.”
