Education Minister Kate Jones today reaffirmed Labor’s strong and enduring commitment to free education.

Ms Jones said the state opposition was deliberately misleading Queensland families.

“It is shameful that Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg is trying to score cheap political points by scaring the families of Queensland’s 520,000 students that choose state education,” she said.

“The Palaszczuk Government will never ever consider means testing public education.

“The only government that has ever pushed to means test state education is the Federal Coalition Government.

“When it was exposed that the Federal Government was considering this back in June this year I said it would happen over my dead body, and I stand by that.

“Labor firmly believes in public education for all and that’s why this year we delivered record $9 billion in funding for education in Queensland.

“As the Minister for Education I will always fight to ensure that every child, no matter where they live, what their parent’s income is or what their personal circumstances are, has access to the best education possible.”
