Queensland continues to lead on jobs growth

Employment figures released today show Queensland has created more jobs than any other state over the last year. 

“In August 26,500 jobs were created in Queensland, a growth record second only to New South Wales for the month,” Mr Nicholls said 

“Since the Government came to office in March 2012, 81,300 jobs have been created and Queensland has seen 16 consecutive months of jobs growth in trend terms.” 

Mr Nicholls said the figures were encouraging, but the Government realised there was still more work to be done to grow Queensland’s four pillar economy. 

“Unemployment in Queensland is sitting at 6.7 per cent, both on trend and seasonally adjusted measures,” Mr Nicholls said. 

“While our economy is growing strongly there is more work to be done to ensure all Queenslanders are sharing in that growth.” 

Mr Nicholls said the workforce participation rate had increased 0.5 per cent, seasonally adjusted, and was stable in trend terms. 

“Queenslanders are returning to the labour market because they can see the Government has a strong plan for our state,” Mr Nicholls said. 

“We know Queensland is being held back by our $80 billion debt, but the Government is continuing to talk to Queenslanders about our plan to reduce the debt. 

“In coming weeks I’ll be releasing our final version of our Strong Choices plan for reducing debt and freeing up funds for the job-creating infrastructure projects our growing state needs.

“Only this Government has a plan to grow our economy so there will be more jobs for Queenslanders.”
