The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has welcomed the appointment of five members of the Queensland Law Reform Commission.

Mr Bleijie said the Commission was a well-established independent body designed to review particular elements of Queensland laws and make recommendations to bring them into the present day.

“This Government has worked tirelessly to revitalise frontline services for families by introducing a raft of news laws and comprehensive reforms in the last two years,” Mr Bleijie said.

“It’s important we continue to look at long-standing legislation in our State to ensure it is simplified and modernised to reflect the progress of our great State.

“The Commission will be headed by Justice David Jackson of the Supreme Court, an experienced legal mind who will bring a fresh perspective to legislation."

Other newly appointed members include:

  • Former Supreme Court Justice Margaret Wilson
  • Peter Hastie QC
  • Dr Peter McDermott RFD, Associate Professor and Reader in Law at the University of Queensland
  • Samantha Traves, former Senior Lecturer and Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Law at Queensland University of Technology

“I look forward to the Commission continuing its vital work in the coming years and contributing to the development of Queensland’s laws," he said.
