Queenslanders have shown their pride and passion for State of Origin is as strong as ever with over 10,000 votes cast by Maroons fans for the official State of Origin commemorative birth certificate design.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie said although it was a tight contest, the traditional Chevron design proved to be the crowd favourite.

“We wanted to hear from Queenslanders near and far to see which certificate best represented the Origin spirit and I’m pleased to say they’ve picked a timeless design that fits the bill perfectly,” Mr Bleijie said.

“It’s great to see thousands of supporters across the State took advantage of the unique opportunity over a four week voting period to have their say to determine what will be a long standing commemorative item.

“Although Queensland won’t be taking out the series this year, supporters will still be able to take home this rare piece of Origin commemorative history with certificates available for sale now.”

Mr Bleijie said a portion of proceeds from the sale of certificates would assist the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in providing life event registration and certification services to remote and Indigenous Queenslanders.

“Without birth certificates, kids can’t enrol in school, get a drivers licence or apply for passports- all important life experiences that will ultimately open doors and provide opportunity,” he said.

“We have a strong plan to revitalise frontline services for families and part of that is ensuring all Queenslanders have access to important life event registration services.”

Mr Blejiie also took the opportunity to congratulate lucky voter J. Smith of Mansfield who picked the winning Chevron design and will take home two tickets to see Game Three at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

“These certificates are available to all Queensland-born supporters, young and old, so I encourage them to show off their Maroons pride in this special way,” he said.

“On behalf of fans, I congratulate Queensland on their phenomenal efforts over the last eight years and wish them all the best for Game Three. The entire State will be behind them.”
