Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience
The Honourable David Crisafulli

The show will go on for families across the Dalrymple electorate with three local events receiving cash grants to help keep the gates open for another year.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the Atherton Tableland, Charters Towers and Malanda shows would receive a combined $47,607 through the Show Society Grants program as part of the Newman Government’s strong plan to support regional communities.

“Queenslanders have flocked to their shows over the past three years with attendance figures up nearly 14 per cent,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“It’s great to see our local shows continuing to thrive as they play such an important role in keeping community spirit alive, as well as being great fun for families.

“We promised to help keep grass-roots community traditions alive in Queensland at the election and we are delivering.

“Whether it’s cattle, fresh produce, sideshow alley or secret scone recipes, Queenslanders love their shows and it’s important they keep rolling up to support and celebrate what makes their town great.

“We also need to recognise the on-going efforts of over 13,500 Queenslanders who volunteer to work behind the scenes to pull together our local shows.”

Grants to shows across the region this year include:

Atherton Tableland Agricultural Society                                                         $16,368

Charters Towers Show                                                                                $14,434

Malanda Show Society                                                                                 $16,805
