Migrants will have a new opportunity to participate in Queensland’s strong economy with the signing of an agreement between the State Government and rail industry specialist Rail Skills Australasia.

Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs Glen Elmes said the agreement would see Rail Skills deliver programs which will provide up to 30 migrants with job opportunities in the rail industry.

“This partnership will create real and sustainable job opportunities for culturally diverse Queenslanders,” Mr Elmes said.

“It will boost families and help to grow communities now and into the future.

“Rail Skills provides extra opportunities for culturally diverse Queenslanders because it acknowledges overseas qualifications in engineering or construction and actively promotes non-traditional trades amongst migrant women.

“Queensland reaps significant economic and social benefits both from its cultural diversity and through continuing migration.

“Through skills, knowledge, ingenuity and sheer effort, generations of migrants have been instrumental in developing our economy and enriching our social and cultural profile.

“We are committed to building thriving regional communities, ensuring our regions are strong, prosperous and where people want to live, work and raise families.

“The Can-Do LNP Government is working hard every day to create jobs and opportunities by growing a four pillar economy.

“More jobs are now being created in Queensland than in any other state and new and innovative partnerships like this one will create more opportunities across the state.

“The Queensland Government was pleased to provide $20,000 under our new economic participation grants program to support the training program.

“Our strong plan is putting Queensland back on track so we again become the nation’s leading economy.”

Mr Elmes said the Rail Skills agreement is another example of how the Government is delivering on commitments of the Queensland Cultural Diversity Policy, and helping to grow Queensland’s four-pillar economy.
