Freeze fire fatalities today

As part of the Government's commitment to Queensland being the safest place to live, homeowners are being reminded to take simple steps to ensure their family's safety.

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Jack Dempsey said winter was a busy time for firefighters and one fatality is one too many.

“The Queensland Government is committed to safe communities and we have delivered over half a billion dollars to fire services in the state,” Mr Dempsey said.

“I urge every Queenslander to take simple steps to ensure this winter is safe for them and their family."

Mr Dempsey said residents can take simple steps to ensure their safety during winter including developing a fire escape plan.

“A fire escape plan can save lives so if a fire alarm does sound a family can react quickly and safely,” he said.

"A vital step is to decide a meeting place for you and your family in case of an emergency.

“It's important to practise that fire escape plan together to ensure everyone knows what to do and where to go during a fire.

"We've boosted the fire services budget and developed resources to help Queenslanders develop a fire escape plan and freeze fire fatalities this winter.

"Safety is everyone's responsibility and I urge Queensland to take steps today to possibly save your life tomorrow."
