Queensland clubs urged to Get Playing and Get Going

More than $14.5 million is now available to community sports clubs to help Queensland families get fit and have fun thanks to two State Government programs.

Get Going provides grants up to $10,000 for items and activities to assist clubs in attracting and retaining members. Get Playing provides grants up to $100,000 to sport and recreation organisations for facility development.

The programs are part of the Newman Government’s $48 million Get in the Game initiative, which has supported almost 1,000 sports clubs since its launch.

“Get in the Game has been such a massive success in getting Queensland families playing sport that the Newman Government has tripled its funding to almost $48 million over three years,” said Minister for Recreation and Sport Steve Dickson.

“So far almost $7 million has been distributed to 960 clubs for equipment and training under the Get Going program and almost $18 million to 220 clubs for infrastructure projects under the Get Playing program.

“I have no doubt this round of Get Going and Get Playing, which opens 1 July 2014 and closes on 1 September 2014, will prove just as successful as the earlier rounds.

“This is exactly what the Newman Government is striving for, more clubs taking steps to drive more sport and recreation opportunities for all Queensland families.

“I urge all Queensland sport and recreation clubs to continue the success of Get in the Game and take advantage of these funding programs,” he said.

Round three of Get Started, the third program in the Get in the Game initiative, is due to open 15 July and assists children and young people with the costs to join a sport or recreation club.
