Minister for Energy and Water Supply
The Honourable Mark McArdle

The Queensland Government today announced the appointment of new directors to the restructured Mount Isa Water Board (MIWB).

Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said the skills and experience of the MIWB’s new directors cover a variety of fields to ensure the board would continue to provide strategic leadership.

The appointments deliver on the Newman Government’s promise to revitalise frontline services for families while delivering better infrastructure and planning.

Mr McArdle congratulated the board’s Chair, Rowena McNally and director Myles Johnston on their reappointments and welcomed new directors Neil Hatherly, Alison Bohannan and Brett Peterson.

Rowena McNally is a qualified lawyer who has been a director of MIWB since 2002 and has experience on other boards including Ergon Energy.

Myles Johnston has been a director on MIWB since 2009 and has experience as General Manager and Geologist with several mines, holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and has a depth of local knowledge.

New appointment Neil Hatherly is currently Chairman of the Field Services Group, a member of Brisbane City Council Audit Committee and Chairman of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the University of Queensland and has also had numerous other directorships.

Alison Bohannan is a local of the Mount Isa region and has a experience serving on boards including chair of Southern Gulf Catchments P/L and on the Mount Isa Institute of TAFE College Council.

Mount Isa City Council Deputy Mayor Brett Peterson previously served on the Council from 2000 until 2008 and also worked at Mount Isa Mines between 1983 and 1994.

Mr McArdle said the appointments are part of the Newman government’s strong plan to enable the MIWB to continue providing safe, reliable and efficient water services to the Mount Isa community well into the future.

The structure of the five member MIWB has also changed from having one independent nominee, two Glencore Xstrata and two Mount Isa City Council nominees, to having one Council and four independent nominees.
