Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games
The Honourable Jann Stuckey

Queensland’s food and wine experiences will be top of the menu this week as a selection of Australian food and wine industry representatives take a seat at the table for the Queensland lunch as part of Tourism Australia’s global campaign, Restaurant Australia

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey said the Queensland Government’s 20-year plan for tourism, Destination Success, outlined the need to promote a taste of regional destinations by highlighting the diversity of regional food and wine experiences.

“Tourism Australia’s Restaurant Australia initiative provides a tremendous opportunity to position Queensland as one of the world’s leading destinations for food and wine experiences,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Queensland boasts an enviable offering of fresh produce coupled with awe-inspiring destinations to suit all palates – from fine-dining in the state’s cultural capital to traditional Indigenous bush tucker in Queensland’s Outback and open-air restaurants by the sea.”

Ms Stuckey said Queensland’s involvement in Restaurant Australia delivered on the Queensland Government’s election promise to grow tourism as one of the four pillars of the economy.

“This campaign also provides Queensland tourism with an opportunity to gain exposure in key international visitor markets, part of our strong plan to create a brighter future for the industry,” Ms Stuckey said.

“More than 190 Queensland businesses have already shared their food and wine experiences through Restaurant Australia, inspiring a global audience to experience Queensland’s culinary experiences for themselves.

“As part of Restaurant Australia, Tourism Australia will also invite the world’s top food and wine influencers to tour Queensland in November, hosted by Queensland’s ambassadors Ben O’Donoghue, Craig Squire and Shane Stanley.”

Queensland businesses are encouraged to get involved in the global campaign by sharing their offering of food and wine experiences at www.restaurant.australia.com and to join the conversation on social media using #restaurantaustralia.
