Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games
The Honourable Jann Stuckey

Queensland business owners will receive help to take their operations to the next level, with the continuation of the Government’s Mentoring for Growth program.

Minister for Small Business Jann Stuckey joined operators and their mentors to celebrate the success of the program and said it delivered on the Government’s election promise to grow the economy.

“In the past year 120 businesses have been assisted through the Mentoring for Growth program, part of the Government’s strong plan to support small businesses in Queensland,” Ms Stuckey said.

“More than 300 mentors from the private sector have participated in the program in the past year with fantastic results.

“The time spent by mentors helping companies in this year has equated to $500,000 in commercial value and an untold value in knowledge and advice.

“It is wonderful to see the contribution these mentors make towards helping grow small business which underpins Queensland’s four pillar economy and supports the key sectors of tourism, agriculture, resources and construction.”

Ms Stuckey said the event was about putting high growth potential companies in touch with people with real world experience who could offer guidance so that they could get on with the business of running successful enterprises.

“The Mentoring for Growth program assists growing enterprises by providing access to a panel of business mentors who could give advice on meeting commercial challenges,” she said.

“Unlike the former Labor Government where the small business sector in Queensland was suffocated under red tape and regulation, we have taken the initiative to have a proper planned approach to assisting the small business sector. These mentoring programs are playing a significant part in that process.”
