Queensland’s Energy and Water Ombudsman has been reappointed for another three years.

Energy and Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said Mr Forbes Smith would lead the Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland through another term to July 2017.

“Mr Smith will continue to provide free and independent dispute resolution services to energy customers across the State and to water customers in south east Queensland,” Mr McArdle said.

“Under Mr Smith’s leadership, more than 14,000 complaint cases in relation to electricity, gas and water services were resolved in the 2012-13 period.

“I am also pleased to announce we have increased funding for the Ombudsman in the 2014-15 state budget which means great protection for all Queenslanders.”

Mr McArdle said the reappointment of Mr Smith provides continuity for the Ombudsman as the Government introduces the National Energy Customer Framework from 1 July 2015.

“This framework will deliver stronger protections and support for vulnerable electricity and gas customers,” he said.

“Its introduction delivers on our commitment to restore accountability in government, while putting downward pressure on electricity prices for Queensland families.

“Only the Newman Government has a strong plan to stabilise electricity prices, while ensuring consumers are properly protected.”
