Asian Cup 2015 football bonanza tickets on sale

Queenslanders are being urged to get in quick with tickets now on sale for the biggest international football tournament Queensland and Australia have ever hosted.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey said the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 would cement Queensland’s standing for international sporting events and build on the LNP Government’s election promise to grow tourism.

“You can now book seats for your family and friends at Australia’s biggest ever football tournament featuring teams including the Socceroos, defending champions Japan, Korea Republic and China,” Ms Stuckey said.

“The AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 is a family-friendly event with tickets priced as low as $5 for children and $40 for a family of four.

“Don’t leave it too late.  With games being played at the height of our summer, and school holidays in full swing, I expect thousands of Queenslanders will flock to these matches.”

Ms Stuckey said around 2.5 billion people globally are expected to tune in to watch the games.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Brisbane and the rest of Queensland to the world, and we will be working hard to maximise the benefits,” Ms Stuckey said.

“This Government has a strong plan to continue to grow the Queensland tourism industry with a goal to double annual overnight visitor expenditure from $15 billion to $30 billion by 2020.

“Under Labor, Queensland’s tourism industry flat lined. We have turned it around with international events such as the AFC Asian Cup helping to build on international expenditure in Queensland which has increased to $4 billion.”

Brisbane will host seven games at Brisbane Stadium at Milton, including the blockbuster Socceroos v Korea Republic match and a quarter-final.

The competition starts in Melbourne with the first game scheduled for Friday 9 January, followed the very next day by Brisbane’s first match.

Tickets range from $15 for adults and $5 for children. Venue Packs are also available which guarantee seats at all seven Brisbane games for $139 or $59 for children.
