Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek
Nearly 24,000 instrumental music students from Queensland state schools are polishing their brass and tuning their strings for the Fanfare 2014 Regional Festivals.
Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said school bands and orchestras would put on a spectacular show of instrumental music.
“Nearly 700 ensembles from more than 400 schools will perform on local stages throughout May and June, competing for one of eleven places in the State Festival in Brisbane in August,” Mr Langbroek said.
“The top five school ensembles will be chosen at the State Festival to play in the grand final concert at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 8 August.”
“The Queensland instrumental program is a highly-regarded and valued component of Queensland state schooling and Fanfare enables schools to show off their programs.”
Mr Langbroek said the Newman Government had partnered with international venue management group AEG Ogden to ensure that Fanfare would continue to nurture students’ musical talents.
“The biennial Fanfare program is close to the hearts of many Queensland families, with more than 120,000 students taking part since it began in 1985,” he said.
“Fanfare is a wonderful example of how public-private partnerships in education can truly benefit young Queenslanders.
“While the Newman Government is working hard to revitalise frontline services and improve student outcomes, corporate investment in programs like Fanfare is helping to enhance the overall educational experience for Queensland students.”
AEG Ogden chairman and CEO Mr Harvey Lister said he was pleased to support Fanfare and looked forward to seeing some of the state’s most talented instrumental music students perform on stage this year.
“AEG Ogden is proud to partner with the Queensland Government to continue sponsorship of Fanfare 2014, following the success of MOST 2013,” Mr Lister said.
The first Fanfare Regional Festival will be held in Townsville on Tuesday 6 May, ahead of festivals in Cairns and across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast from the end of the month.
Students in Central Queensland and Darling Downs South West will take to the stage in the first week of June.
