The Honourable Jack Dempsey

Queensland Police officers involved in the G20 Summit will be granted two extra days of leave.

Police Minister Jack Dempsey made the announcement today alongside Queensland Police Union President Ian Leavers.

“Thousands of Queensland officers have made a commitment to assist with both the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane and the Finance Ministers’ Meeting in Cairns,” Mr Dempsey said.

“To reward the officers for their hard work and dedication they’ll be entitled to two days of extra leave.

“This is our way of thanking those officers who’ll serve the community during this historic international event.”

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing said every Queensland officer will be involved in G20 in some capacity.

“I thank the Minister for his announcement and recognition of the hard work being done around the state particularly in relation to G20.

“A significant number of our police officers from across the state will be away from their families and attend both Brisbane and Cairns to support the event

“This is the largest security and policing operation in Queensland’s history and all our officers are highly committed to ensuring the success of this event.” Mr Pointing said.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers approached the Minister, Police Commissioner and the Premier with the proposal.

“I thank the Minister, Commissioner and Premier for considering and listening to my suggestion and today announcing two extra days off for all police in Queensland because of their commitment to G20," Mr Leavers said.

Over 5,300 officers will be involved in policing the Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane, while around 700 officers will be deployed for the Finance Ministers’ Meeting in Cairns.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 15 and 16.

Cairns will host the G20 Finance Ministers’ Meeting on September 20 and 21.
