    Cultural Precinct Plan consultation extended

Queenslanders will have one month longer to let the State Government know what they think about a plan to update Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct.

Arts Minister Ian Walker said the official consultation period would now extend to Friday 27 June from the original 30 May deadline.

“Every Queenslander should have a chance to let us know what they want for the future of the capital’s Cultural Precinct,” Mr Walker.

“It’s an area that doesn’t belong to South Brisbane, Brisbane or southeast Queensland.

“The Cultural Precinct belongs to all Queenslanders, and I want them to have the opportunity to tell us what they would like it to be in 20 years.

“We have already received more than 360 surveys and we hope there’s more to come.”

Mr Walker said the draft Cultural Precinct Plan outlined the government’s vision to guide future development and investment over the next 20 years and included proposals for new theatres, hotels, restaurants, as well as new science and learning facilities.

“It also delivers on the government’s election promise of better infrastructure and better planning,” He said.

“This precinct is already a highly successful and much-loved arts and cultural icon of our state.

“This plan is one vision to make what’s great even better while we preserve what makes South Bank so unique and attractive.”
