Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek

Queensland’s education system continues to go from strength-to-strength with a report showing the Year 12 class of 2013 achieved record results.

Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he was delighted to see a continued increase in the percentage of Year 12 students with quality outcomes from Queensland schools, including a record number of students who left with a Certificate III or higher qualification.

“The Queensland Government is exceptionally proud of the 48,000 Year 12 graduates from 2013 and I congratulate them on their achievements,” Mr Langbroek said.

“Everything we do in education is directed towards better student outcomes and these young adults are off to a flying start for their transition to work, training or further education.

“This government has a strong plan to further boost education in Queensland through programs like the $537 million Great teachers = Great results program.”

Mr Langbroek said over the last five years the number of students in the higher Overall Position (OP) bands had increased.

"An increasing number of students are now completing Year 12, with schools now offering a broader curriculum that prepares them for a variety of post-school options,” he said.

The Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) report contains student and school achievement information with a breakdown of student achievements by OP band and vocational education and training qualification levels for each school.

They can also see the percentage of students who received an International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Highlights from the 2013 report include increases from the 2012 Year 12 outcomes, which recorded some of the best results since the report’s inception:

• 88.6 per cent of the state’s Year 12 graduates achieved a Queensland Certificate of Education, a rise of 2.5 per cent from the previous year

• 67.3 per cent of Year 12 students received a Vocational Education and Training certificate or undertook a School based Apprenticeship or Traineeship, rising 1 per cent from the previous year

• The percentage of students who received a Certificate II or higher rose 2.2 per cent to 50.6 per cent

• The percentage of students who achieved Certificate III or higher increased by 3.0 per cent to 18.9 per cent.
