Queensland Maroons fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite specially designed State of Origin birth certificate as part of a state wide competition launched today.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie was joined by members of the Queensland team and said the commemorative certificates were a unique way for supporters to celebrate the birth of a loved one and show off their Queensland pride.

“It’s well known Queenslanders grow a foot taller at State of Origin time and these certificates are a timeless memento for all fans of the game,” Mr Bleijie said.

“We have worked closely with the QRL to create four unique certificate designs, but now we want to hear from the fans to see which one best represents the Maroons spirit.

“Based on the online vote, the most popular design will then be available for public sale, so it’s important we get the selection right.

“One lucky supporter who picks the winning certificate will score a double pass to cheer on the mighty Maroons live at Suncorp Stadium for game three on 9 July, 2014.

Queensland star Corey Parker said he was excited to help launch the competition and urged all fans to jump online and make sure their design gets across the line.

“I’ve picked out my favourite but we’ll have to wait and see what the rest of the State has to say when the votes come in,” he said.

Mr Bleijie said a portion of proceeds from the sale of certificates would assist the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in providing life event registration and certification services to remote and Indigenous Queenslanders.

“At the end of the competition, anyone born in Queensland regardless of age can register for these certificates, so it’s important we get Maroons supporters young and old involved in the creative process,” he said.

“Voting is open now so I encourage everyone to jump online and take advantage of this rare opportunity to contribute to Origin’s commemorative history.

“The last eight years have been very special for Queensland and I know I’m not alone in wishing the team the very best this year to make it nine in row.”
