Seoul:Queensland’s $490 million beef export market with Korea is set to grow after some of Queensland’s best produce was showcased to Korean importers.

Premier Campbell Newman hosted a traditional Aussie style barbeque for 50 Korean beef importers as part of a trade mission to Seoul.

“Queensland has seen a major increase in its sales of beef to Korea, and this barbeque was another great opportunity to further boost the reputation of Queensland beef in this important market,” Mr Newman said.

“Last financial year Queensland exported more than $490 million worth of beef to Korea, making this region the third largest beef export market for the Queensland beef industry.

“This figure has increased significantly over the past five years by some $100 million, indicating Korea’s increased hunger for high quality, clean and safe beef and food products.”

Mr Newman said the event was attended by representatives from Korea’s food and agriculture industry, including major beef and food importing companies, retail and food processors.

“Queensland’s agriculture industry is one of the four pillars of our economy, and the Government is doing everything it can to grow our agricultural exports,” Mr Newman said.

“Boosting beef exports to Korea will help reach our target of doubling agricultural production over the next 30 years.”

The Premier also took the opportunity to promote Beef 2015, one of the world's greatest beef industry events being held in Rockhampton in May 2015.

“Beef 2015 will bring together producers, breeders and industry stakeholders from around the world to see first-hand the innovation, technology and expertise that Queensland has to offer the world’s beef industry,” Mr Newman said.

Mr Newman is with Prime Minister Tony Abbott, State Premiers and a group of Australian companies on a mission to build trade and investment links with Korea and China from 7 – 13 April.

The Premier will focus on promoting Queensland’s agriculture, education and training, and tourism industries.
