Seoul: The global benefits of Queensland’s international education and training industry were the focus as Premier Campbell Newman met a group of Korean-based student alumni and education industry leaders in Seoul, Korea.

Mr Newman said Queensland was an excellent destination to live, work and study, and that alumni make incredible ambassadors for the State in their home countries.

“Our focus not just on education in general but on the outcomes of education makes Queensland an ideal place to study,” Mr Newman said.

“We promised at the election to revitalise frontline services, which includes our education and vocational education and training sectors and students both at home and those who come to Queensland from abroad are benefitting.

“Queensland is currently home to 6,378 Korean enrolments, with students attending our English language schools, high schools, vocational training institutions and universities.

“We see every one of these students as potential ambassadors for the Queensland and Korea relationship into the future.

“These alumni have completed their studies in Queensland and have returned to Korea to seek employment, taking their knowledge of our State with them. “The more interactions we have with these ambassadors, the more opportunities there will be to form new friendships, collaborate on research, undertake new projects and business ventures, and bring increased mutual economic benefits.

“Queensland’s international student alumni make a valuable contribution to our cultural and education ties, helping cement Queensland’s global reputation as a state that is open for business – a Great State with Great Opportunity.”

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman is with Prime Minister Tony Abbott, State Premiers and a group of Australian companies on a mission to build trade and investment links with Korea and China from 7 – 13 April.

The Premier will focus on promoting Queensland’s agriculture, education and training, and tourism industries.
