Labor admits to playing dirty with public service jobs

The Honourable Tim Nicholls

Queensland Labor has been caught out in an extraordinary admission this morning, finally acknowledging the Queensland Government’s efforts to stem their waste and mismanagement were absolutely necessary.

Treasurer Tim Nicholls said comments made by the Member for South Brisbane Jackie Trad during a regular radio spot highlighted her party’s breathless hypocrisy; as she confirmed there would be no policy to regrow the public service to the unmanageable levels they had been allowed to reach under the former Government.

“This is a disgusting display of politics from Labor, which has railed against our Government’s commitment to fixing Queensland’s finances,” Mr Nicholls said

“They called us every name in the book as they shamelessly played on people’s emotions, despite all the while knowing we were undertaking a course of action made necessary through their sheer waste and economic incompetence.

“When asked if her party would reverse the disciplined measures we have undertaken, Ms Trad waffled about Labor’s general ‘belief’ in public services, before admitting they wouldn’t be re-growing the public service.

“That’s because Labor knows our Government had the best interests of all Queenslanders at heart when we undertook the tough decisions necessary to start getting the State’s finances under control, rather than a blind allegiance to whatever might help Labor’s numbers on any given day.

“The LNP made a commitment to fix the financial mess Labor left behind, and through our disciplined, methodical actions we are getting the job done.

“We have been open and transparent with Queenslanders every step of the way. Labor’s admissions this morning show that they continue to display the same insincerity and duplicity which were part and parcel of anything to do with the former government.”
