Minister for Housing and Public Works
The Honourable Tim Mander

Housing affordability in Redcliffe has received a welcome boost with 20 new townhouses recently completed under the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).

Minister for Housing and Public Works Tim Mander said that the development delivered on the LNP Government’s election promise to lower the cost of living for families.

“Boosting the supply of affordable housing is the perfect way to lower the cost of living for families, especially those who are doing it tough,” Mr Mander said.

“The development on John Street includes 28 townhouses, with 20 of those to be offered under the NRAS initiative.

“It is a great location in the vibrant Redcliffe foreshore precinct just minutes from local shops and schools and with easy access to public transport.

“I would like to congratulate Aspire Housing Group and Zest Homes for delivering a quality development that will go a long way to helping people find an affordable place to live.”

Dwellings delivered under the scheme have their rent capped at no more than 80% of the going market rate for the area.

Mr Mander said the number of dwellings delivered under the scheme had taken off in recent years after the program stalled under Labor.

“We recently passed the 7,000th dwelling constructed in Queensland under this scheme with more than 5,000 of those delivered under the LNP Government,” he said.

“NRAS is important because it increases the supply of new affordable rental housing, and also provides a real alternative to social housing for low to moderate income households.

“Other programs such as RentConnect and Bond Loans also help people enter the private rental market by helping them find a suitable dwelling and providing an interest free loan for the rental bond.”
