Landholders still have the opportunity to learn more about how they can benefit from the Newman Government’s new vegetation management reforms, with a further 10 industry events to be held over the next month.

Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Andrew Cripps said the Newman Government had delivered common sense and practical reforms to vegetation management, which built on the commitment to build agriculture as one of the state’s four economic pillars.

“The additional sessions follow 70 events attended by more than 1,500 landholders since December 2013,” Mr Cripps said.

“Unlike Labor’s approach, the new self-assessable codes have removed burdensome paperwork to allow farmers and graziers to get on with routine land management practices without unnecessary red tape.

“Landholders can now undertake routine land management activities, such as controlling pest weeds or harvesting fodder for stock, without having to fill out an application form.

“Gone are the days where these routine tasks required a permit, with landholders now only needing to notify the Department of their intentions to undertake these activities as part of managing their land."

Upcoming sessions will be held at:

Meandarra – 5 March
Teelba – 7 March
Morven – 11 March
Bollon – 13 March
Cunnamulla – 14 March
Quilpie – 18 March
Charleville – 19 March
Tambo – 20 March
Mitchell – 21 March
Taroom – 3 April.

Landholders interested in attending an upcoming events can phone 4654 4276 for further detail.

As of late February, landholders had submitted 196 notifications to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines for vegetation management activities since the new codes began in early December 2013.
