Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services
The Honourable Jack Dempsey

Sporting heroes, community leaders and celebrities have been ‘locked up’ in King George Square this morning, to raise much needed funds for Queensland’s Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYCs).

Police Minister Jack Dempsey joined Commissioner Ian Stewart to launch the annual Time4Kids Appeal where prominent members of the community are ‘detained’ in a portable jail cell under the supervision of a Police Officer.

The money raised for their 'bail' is donated to the work of the PCYC’s youth development programs.

“The PCYC is one of the country’s most respected organisations when it comes to running and administering youth activities and Time4Kids is a fun opportunity for our community leaders to make a difference,” Mr Dempsey said.

“PCYCs provide the state's youth with everything from sporting opportunities to mentoring programs, helping to guide many Queensland children towards responsible adulthood.

“This morning our police have ‘detained’ Australian Netball Captain Laura Geitz, 9 News weather presenter Gary Youngberry and several corporate CEOs.

“The community helped pitch in for their bail, knowing the funds raised would support some very important youth initiatives.”

Commissioner Ian Stewart said last year Time4Kidsraised in excess of $500,000 for PCYCs.

“Last year’s event was a huge success and we hope this year to raise even more funds for our Police Citizens Youth Clubs,” Commissioner Stewart said.

“More than 110 local PCYCs will participate in Time4Kidsacross six states and we hope to raise a total of $750,000.

“Time4Kidsis a great opportunity for the community to get involved and work together with police to support their local PCYC and make adifference.”
