The Honourable Tracy Davis

The upcoming Queensland Disability Conference has had an overwhelming response from people with disability, their family, carers and the sector with registrations fully subscribed and all sponsorship and exhibition spaces sold, one month ahead of the event.

Disability Services Minister Tracy Davis said she was pleased by the strong interest in the conference, which would be held on 24 and 25 March 2014 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and includes the Queensland Disability Awards presentation ceremony.

“The great interest in the conference shows the disability community’s support for the Newman Government’s decision to sign up to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), as well as our election promise to revitalise frontline services, ahead of the transition to the scheme,” Ms Davis said.

“During the two-day conference, delegates will hear first-hand from the National Disability Insurance Agency about national developments as well as learnings from other jurisdictions.

“We will also detail Queensland’s plans to implement the NDIS from July 2016.

“It’s an exciting time for the sector in this state, with more taking place to benefit people with a disability than happened for years under the former Labor government.”

Ms Davis said she understood many people who were unable to attend the conference and awards ceremony would be interested in the information shared at the event.

“Information and resources from the conference will be publicly available following the event,” she said.
