New partnership to grow Youth Week celebrations

The Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) Queensland will help deliver and co-ordinate Queensland’s Youth Week activities under a new partnership with the Newman Government.

Communities Minister Tracy Davis said the three year partnership delivered on the Government’s election promise to revitalise frontline services.

“PCYC will receive $210,000 to run a small grants program, marketing campaign and a range of activities leading up to Youth Week,” Ms Davis said.

“In addition, PCYC will hold an event each year and provide an opportunity to showcase the talents and contributions of young Queenslanders.”

“This year’s Youth Week will be held from 4 to 13 April and the theme ‘Our Voice. Our Impact.’ encourages young people to be connected to their communities.”

Ms Davis said the partnership was a fresh approach to celebrating and promoting Youth Week in Queensland.

“Through the new Youth Week partnership, young people will be better connected to events and activities that enable them to highlight their issues and concerns, express their ideas and opinions, and to celebrate their contributions to their communities,” she said.

“During Youth Week 2013, more than 14,000 young people attended the 54 funded events held across the state.

“We look forward to working with PCYC to make Youth Week 2014 even bigger and better.”

Ms Davis said small grant applications for hosting community events during Youth Week were open until 21 February.

National Youth Week is an annual event held in April each year and in Queensland it is jointly funded by the state and Commonwealth governments.
