A Redcliffe community group that helps local youth in challenging times will directly benefit from a $90,000 fine paid by disgraced former MP Scott Driscoll.

Premier Campbell Newman said the money would boost frontline services through the Redcliffe Youth Space, an award winning organisation helping the community for the past 11 years.

“This Government understands the pain and suffering that has been inflicted on the local community by the former Member,” Mr Newman said.

“That’s why we voted in Parliament to see that his fine be used to directly support a local organisation.”

Mr Newman said there were two options for the fine, putting it in consolidated revenue or making sure the community would benefit.

“Giving it back to the community that was injured is a sensible choice, it is justice,” he said.

“Disappointingly Labor voted against the motion, showing its complete lack of support and disregard for the Redcliffe community.

“This decision clearly shows how important the people of Redcliffe are to this Government and we are delivering for the community where Labor has failed.

“It highlights the need for a strong voice in the government and our LNP candidate Kerri-Anne Dooley will provide that voice as well as on-going support for locals.”

Communities Minister Tracy Davis praised the organisation that will receive the money.

“Redcliffe Youth Space provides vital services for young people needing help to cope with drug and alcohol addictions, family breakdowns and bullying,” Ms Davis said.

“It has a local focus and is committed to helping young people build relationships and enhance their ability to find employment and discover their potential.

“The group works alongside other community and youth organisations as well as schools, medical practitioners and government agencies.

“I have no doubt this local organisation will put this money to good use.”
