Queensland students shine in Year 12 results

A year of achievement in schools is set to conclude with the highest ever percentage of Year 12 school leavers being awarded a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) today mailed final results to more than 50,000 Year 12 graduates.

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said results and certificates would start arriving in the post from Monday (22 December).

“The Newman LNP Government has a relentless focus on achieving better student outcomes and we are revitalising education in Queensland,” Mr Langbroek said.

“We want every student to have every chance of landing their dream job and that’s why I’m delighted to see a record 90 per cent of students awarded a QCE this year.

“The QCE is an internationally-recognised qualification that records student achievement across school courses, vocational education and training, workplace learning and university subjects.”

Mr Langbroek said Year 12 results showed Queensland schools supported opportunities for students regardless of what path they wanted to take to reach their career goals.

“Whether they want to go to university, start an apprenticeship or traineeship or head directly into the workforce, young Queenslanders are spoilt for choice when it comes to getting the qualifications they need to get a job,” he said.

“We need to stress that if some students don’t get the results they wanted, there are still options available to them so they can enjoy success in whatever field they choose.”

QCAA chief executive officer Chris Rider said that for the first time Certificates of Academic Commendation had been sent to 904 students who received Very High Achievements (VHAs) in at least 24 semesters of Authority subjects (the equivalent of six VHAs).

“The commendation certificate is the first category to be awarded in the inaugural Queensland Certificate of Education Achievement Awards,” Mr Rider said.

“Winners in a further six categories, including Outstanding Academic Achiever in Queensland, will be announced at an awards ceremony in February.”

Students can access their Year 12 results online from 9am tomorrow (Saturday 20 December), using their Learner Unique Identifier (LUI) and password to log into their learning account on the QCAA’s Student Connect website www.studentconnect.qcaa.qld.edu.au
