A new call centre offering jobs and training to more than 125 locals has been lured to Townsville.

Visiting Townsville today, Premier Campbell Newman described the establishment of the new call centre as a significant and welcome boost for the local economy.

The new centre will manage customer service, queries and complaints for Townsville, Queensland and Australian based clients in the construction, hospitality and tourism industries.

“This is a boon for jobs and skills in Townsville, proving Queensland can compete with call centre hubs on the world stage,” Mr Newman said.

“By offering a better quality local service, we will support regional communities and bring jobs that would have been lost interstate or overseas back to Queensland.

“These are the sorts of opportunities Queensland needs to keep creating and my government is working hard every day to deliver more jobs for our families in the future.”

Local MP David Crisafulli said recruits would be drawn exclusively from Townsville.

“Rather than thinking we have all the answers, this shows what can happen when a government works with the private sector to create jobs,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“This will provide jobs to the long-term unemployed, provided they have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.”

The call centre will be established by Outcome Results and operated by Foneup, with Set Solutions to start training new recruits this month.

Outcome Results managing director Rabieh Krayem said the call centre would provide 125 jobs in the first 12 months and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“This is the first call centre of its kind in Queensland and as the business grows we aim to increase staff to around 200 and establish similar call centres in other regional areas,” Mr Krayem said.

“By working closely with local employment agencies we are tapping into a valuable resource that will provide a steady stream of quality recruits who will benefit from one of the best call centre training programs in Australia.”

The Newman LNP Government is supporting the establishment of the call centre in Townsville by providing training funding assistance.
