Families will be able to enjoy the CBD bathed in spectacular lights even longer, with the popular Colour Me Brisbane now continuing right through until the end of the G20 Leaders Summit.

Assistant Minister to the Premier Deb Frecklington said thousands of people had enjoyed the free G20 Cultural Celebrations spectacle, prompting a program extension.

“The Cultural Celebrations have been incredibly well received by the general public and as a result Colour Me Brisbane will continue for another week to welcome the G20 Leaders and our international guests,” Ms Frecklington said.

“This is a once in a generation opportunity to show the world what a great place Queensland is to visit and live in and to deliver some lasting economic benefits to this state.

“There will be more than 7,000 delegates and media here for the summit and highlighting the city will allow us to take full advantage.

“So far, the Celebrations have attracted huge crowds at a host of community and cultural events across the city, showcasing some of our finest artists at performances including Queensland Ballet’s Coppelia and The World According to Brass featuring James Morrison over the weekend.

“We have celebrated our diversity with more than 30,000 members of our community attending Brisbane on Parade along the South Bank promenade, culminating with Fiesta Latina.

“Thousands more have viewed the spectacular Colour Me Brisbane lighting displays and performances every night.”

Creative Director Jono Perry said Colour Me Brisbane would continue through until this Sunday night 16 November, with the city’s most iconic buildings and signature landmarks immersed in luminous displays and spectacular effects.

“Key sites will continue to be activated including QPAC, Queens Park, Parliament House and Commissariat Store which have transformed our city’s night time skyline with a spectacular lighting display for the last 17 days,” Mr Perry said.

“Queenslanders have a lot to be proud of; we are culturally rich and diverse and that’s something we want the rest of the world to see.”

Ms Frecklington said there were more free events to come ahead of the Leaders’ Summit.

“There’s another week to go of the G20 Cultural Celebrations with activities for everyone to enjoy across Brisbane,” she said

“During the G20 Summit long weekend, families and friends are encouraged to join in the Great Get Togethers that will be hosted at parks across Brisbane’s suburbs.

The large scale events will feature live music and performances and will celebrate community, food, fun and creativity.

“We won’t get another G20, so let’s celebrate this great state while the opportunity is here.”

The G20 Cultural Celebrations run from October 24 – November 16, 2014 and all events are free. The program features hundreds of free community events including live music programs, interactive lighting and projection displays across Brisbane city, pop-up dance performances, street performances, community BBQs and multicultural community events.
