The Honourable Jeff Seeney

Families in Brisbane will enjoy vibrant new waterfront communities after the Queensland Government announced new state-owned land at Northshore Hamilton has been released to the market.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney called for Expressions of Interest to redevelop just over two hectares of land adjacent to the Brisbane River, which would grow the economy and create hundreds of jobs.

“We promised at the election to deliver better infrastructure and planning and the urban renewal of the Priority Development Area at Northshore Hamilton is a strong example of our policies at work,” Mr Seeney said.

“We also promised to grow construction as one of the four pillars of the economy after it was ignored by Labor and we are delivering.

“The next step in transforming Northshore Hamilton, a 304 hectare master-planned Brisbane community, starts with a new two hectare Civic Park development site being offered to the market.

“About 720 apartments and 25 business premises could be built as part of the redevelopment, creating an estimated 1,600 new construction jobs.

“Once complete, this development will offer vibrant new waterfront homes and business opportunities to Brisbane residents and investors and kick-start the local economy.”

The Queensland Government has been working with top tier developers to transform Northshore Hamilton since 2007. The master-planned community is planned and assessed by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.

This new two hectare site will bring together the existing precincts Hamilton Reach to the east and Portside Wharf and Hamilton Harbour to the west. It will also extend the river walk as well as connect it to Portside Wharf.

The development plan includes an urban waterfront park, complete with a community swimming pool, to be delivered by Economic Development Queensland.

Interested groups have until 27 November 2014 to submit an Expression of Interest.
