Mr Robert Cavallucci

Thousands of Queenslanders will experience a safe and great night out from tonight as the LNP Government’s $44.5 million Safe Night Out Strategy officially begins.

Member for Brisbane Central Robert Cavallucci, who chairs the Safe Night Out Implementation Panel, said the strategy would allow Queenslanders to enjoy a safe night out in 15 dedicated precincts across the state.

“Our comprehensive plan means that as summer approaches, tourists and many Queenslanders planning to unwind and have fun with their friends and families will be able to enjoy a safer night out,” Mr Cavallucci said.

“Instead of working to deliver a safe night out for Queenslanders, Labor is working to ensure there is no night out at all.

“Responsible Queenslanders from Cairns to Coolangatta deserve to have a safe night out without the fear of becoming a victim of alcohol-fuelled violence, and only the LNP is committed to delivering that result.

“The LNP Government has committed $44.5 million toward the strategy including education, stronger penalties, targeted policing, better prevention and safe environments and we are delivering.”

Queensland Police Service (QPS) Brisbane Region Assistant Commissioner Peter Martin said the QPS would provide a strong presence in the Safe Night Out precincts.

“Police will be providing a highly visible presence to ensure the safety of those who are trying to enjoy a great night out,” Assistant Commissioner Martin said.

“The QPS is working closely with the new Safe Night Out precinct boards to deliver better services to establishments and their patrons while ensuring safe streets.”

President of the Fortitude Valley Safe Night Out board Nick Braban welcomed the Government’s commitment to small and medium business across the state.

“People of all ages should be allowed the freedom to enjoy a night out, and the government has shown it has listened to the thousands of responsible citizens who enjoy socializing in our entertainment precincts, unlike Labor who simply propose to close our businesses down,” Mr Braban said.

“This strategy will create safer streets while protecting the jobs and livelihoods of thousands of Queenslanders who work in hospitality and the many related industries which play a part in this section of the economy.”
