The Honourable John McVeigh

A finance and taxation expert with more than 15 years of in-depth industry knowledge and experience with Government is set to take a leading role in the Queensland Treasury and Trade Department.

Acting Treasurer John McVeigh today announced Elizabeth Goli had been named as the new Commissioner for the Office of State Revenue (OSR).

“Ms Goli’s extensive taxation background and leadership experience at both the Queensland OSR and the Australian Tax Office mean she is perfectly placed to continue the Newman Government’s methodical plan to reduce debt and secure the state’s finances,” Mr McVeigh said.

“Queensland is being weighed down by the magnitude of Labor’s black cloud of debt, hampering the huge inroads the Newman Government has made in turning the state’s finances around.

“When Queenslanders are being forced to pay a sickening $4 billion each year in interest on Labor’s debt, it’s clear that business as usual is not an option - we need to provide infrastructure for the future to assist in growing the economy, and Ms Goli’s appointment forms an important part of that plan.

“Our considered course of action will ensure the best value for Queensland taxpayers, securing financial independence into the future.”

Mr McVeigh said Ms Goli would lead and shape OSR’s business and administrative systems, implementing the Government’s policies to restore Queensland’s finances and ensuring the effectiveness of the state’s revenue collection streams.

“We’re continuing our measured and methodical plan to turn Queensland’s finances around, and I’m very pleased Ms Goli will be a part of that through her new role,” he said.

Mr McVeigh also acknowledged the valuable contribution of outgoing Commissioner David Smith.

“David has provided strong leadership and direction and driven significant improvements in the performance of OSR in his seven years in the role,” Mr McVeigh said.
