Aspiring tertiary students have 48 hours left to finalise their Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC) preferences for the major offer round this month.

Acting Minister for Education, Training and Employment John McVeigh encouraged school leavers and all current QTAC applicants planning tertiary study this year to review their preference list.

“QTAC applicants have until midnight on Wednesday (8 January) to finalise their preferences,” Dr McVeigh said.

“This will ensure they are eligible for the major offer round for Semester One 2014 which will be released from 9am next Thursday (16 January).”

Dr McVeigh said QTAC processed applications for the majority of undergraduate courses at Queensland universities, for diploma, advanced diploma and associate degree courses at TAFE Queensland institutes and other education providers.

“According to QTAC, more than 7000 offers were made in the 12 December offer round, including creative and performing arts courses and some Graduate Diploma and nursing programs,” he said.

“However, the majority of offers were made in the January, with more than 30,000 offers expected to be made on 16 January.”

Dr McVeigh reminded students not to lose heart if they didn’t receive the OP they expected or didn’t end up with the course offer they wanted.

“There are a range of study options and pathways available such as dual award programs, credit transfer and upgrading your QTAC selection rank through tertiary study,” he said.

“I encourage you to discuss what’s possible with QTAC and education and training providers.”

QTAC preferences can be changed using the Current Applicant online service on QTAC’s website www.qtac.edu.au. Anyone who has not yet applied is encouraged to do so as soon as possible, to maximise their chance of consideration for the January offer round.
