    Fee-free training for 2013 graduates

Fee-free apprenticeships and traineeships are now available in more than ten industries for Year 12 students who graduated in 2013.

Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek said the qualifications in high demand areas were chosen by the Newman Government and industry.

“Together we’re determined to boost the Queensland economy after years of Labor mismanagement, while also supporting our school leavers to find employment,” said Mr Langbroek.

He said the commitment to fee-free training in priority areas was made in the Great skills. Real opportunities VET reform action plan released in June 2013.

“Fee-free training will give recent Year 12 graduates the opportunity to complete a high priority qualification without the financial burden of student contribution fees,” said Mr Langbroek.

“The Newman Government is giving Queensland’s students and employers greater choice and access to quality training so that together we can build the Queensland economy.”

Mr Langbroek said these 11 fee-free qualifications would be available if students commence their training in the calendar year after completing Year 12.

“Under Labor, the vocational education and training (VET) sector was a real mess, with below standard training facilities, and dwindling student numbers,” said Mr Langbroek.

“Our Government is cleaning up Labor’s mess by reforming the VET sector so that training will lead to real jobs and increased productivity,” he said.
