Minister for Health
The Honourable Lawrence Springborg

Paramedics at Balmoral Ambulance Station have taken delivery of a brand new $215,000 ambulance vehicle.

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said the new vehicle was delivered as part of the Newman Government’s fleet replacement program and featured the latest technology.

“The Newman Government is committed to ensuring frontline staff have the equipment they need to protect and care for Queenslanders,” Mr Springborg said.

“In 2013-14 we will deliver 155 new and replacement vehicles to ambulance stations across the State at a cost of $21 million dollars.

“Our LNP Government’s decision to align Queensland Ambulance Service boundaries with those of Queensland Health has seen significant improvements in emergency response times.

“Reports dating back to 2007 recommended the Queensland Ambulance Service align with Queensland Health – reports the former Labor Government ignored.”

Member for Bulimba Aaron Dillaway said Balmoral is a busy inner-city station that responds to major incidents on the Gateway Motorway and the Port of Brisbane.

“The local community can be confident its paramedics have the vehicles and equipment they need to continue to provide a very high level of service and care – whenever and wherever it is needed,” Mr Dillaway said.

“The new Mercedes Sprinter 319 has been fitted out with a range of specialist equipment, including a Stryker stretcher and stair chair which can safely support patients weighing up to 228kg.

“Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were extensively involved in the design and layout of the vehicle to ensure it meets performance requirements, as well as providing a safe and practical environment for quality patient care.”
