Move fast to join in Australia Day celebrations

Those wanting to join in Australia Day celebrations at the new Great Australian Bites event, should act now with tickets selling fast.

A celebration of the true modern BBQ, Great Australian Bites will take over the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank from 5pm on Friday 24 January.

Premier Campbell Newman said it was going to be a food spectacular by the Brisbane River.

“Australia is a multicultural society and this event will be the perfect opportunity to showcase this diversity along with some fantastic Queensland produce,” Mr Newman said.

“Guests will enjoy food included as part of their ticket price, from cultures all over the world, including Asian favourite sang chow boa, a twist on the traditional European duck confit, South African boerewors and Mooloolaba’s own grilled prawns.”

2013 MasterChef runner-up Lynton Tapp will also take to the stage to share his passion for cooking, alongside special guests David Pugh and food consultant Alison Alexander.

There will also be cooking demonstrations, including recipes to try at home on your own BBQ, as well as a celebration of the 2014 Australia Post Legends of Cooking.

“It will be the perfect way to kick off your Australia Day weekend,” Mr Newman said.

“You may even want to share in the Australian way of life and shout tickets for someone you want to thank in your organisation or community.”

Great Australian Bites will also offer a great line up of local entertainment including Brisbane pop six-piece band sensation, Sheppard, who have been taking Australia and the world by storm sharing the stage with the unique sounds of Brother Fox and Slip-on Stereo.

Great Australian Bites is an initiative of the Queensland Government and supported by Australia Post, Network Ten, B105, Triple M, 4BC, Green Beacon, Sirromet, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Ikea, Illuminated Industries and Lick! Icecream.
