Acting Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Tim Nicholls

The public has one week left to submit their feedback on the proposed Development Scheme for the Parklands Priority Development Area (PDA).

The proposed planning document sets out the land uses, future development and infrastructure planned for the Parklands PDA, which will guide construction of the Commonwealth Games Village and longer-term development within this part of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Acting Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Tim Nicholls said feedback from two community sessions had been generally positive, and encouraged the community to have their say before the public notification period ends on 13 September.

“The redevelopment of Parklands is a significant construction project for the region, contributing vital infrastructure for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth GamesTM (GC2018) and a place for residents and businesses in the longer-term,” Mr Nicholls said.

“The Commonwealth Games Village is the catalyst for this redevelopment project and the community has an opportunity to have a say in what Parklands will develop into after GC2018.

“Ultimately the site has the development potential for a wide range of uses, including health and knowledge facilities, housing, shops and cafes, community facilities and transport infrastructure after GC2018.

“This is an exciting time for the Gold Coast community and I encourage as many people as possible to provide feedback on the proposed development scheme.”

The community can provide feedback on the proposed development scheme by 13 September 2013. Submissions can be made by writing to Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) by post to: Reply Paid GPO Box 2202 Brisbane QLD 4001 or email edq@dsdip.qld.gov.au

After the public notification period closes, all feedback will be compiled, amendments may be made to the development scheme where appropriate and a submissions report will be provided to the Minister for consideration.

The proposed development scheme is available online at www.dsdip.qld.gov.au/infrastructure-and-planning/parklands.html or from the EDQ office at Level 4, 229 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane, from Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4:30pm.

A copy of the development scheme is also available at the Gold Coast City Council Nerang Office at 833 Southport-Nerang Road, Nerang from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm.

The land at the Parklands PDA will be transferred to EDQ on 1 October and early works and site preparation are anticipated to commence in October 2013.
